Challenge
The local scene is experiencing an overload of shareable information. Today’s consumers are oversaturated with local events, meet-ups, and group activities. Despite the endless sea of happenings, people continue their struggle to find activities that align with their personal interests.
I was with the task of creating a visual design for a mobile app that re-imagines how people can search and find activities that reflect their interests. Our instructor gave us the liberty to create a visual design that reflected on my interest. I was still able to use the deliverables that were given by the UX team.
Approach
With the creative freedom that I was given for this project. I started to sketch out some ideas for a logo. I sketched out several types for logos from wordmarks, lettermarks, and mascots. In the end, I decided to go with a pictorial logo. The logo is a Tetrahedron (triangular pyramid) from a certain angle that resembles the letter V while serving as a beacon from people who can pinpoint their interest.
I also gave three moodboards for different looks but after a meeting with my instructor, he suggested that I should go with a sporty/athletic route because the logo reminded him of an athletic apparel company.
I looked into other athletic/fitness apps such as Nike Training, Nike Run, and 24 Hour Fitness to name a few from my competitive analysis and looked for some opportunities that I can present something new to the landscape. Also allowing people to create groups and events that are athletic-related.
Discovery
The UX deliverables included two user personas, both personas somewhat fit with the direction that I was going with. So I created a persona that was more fitting for the app. I also noticed that since it was an interest-based app for the niche market of fitness therefore I had to make sure that the social aspect was still implemented.
